This 2013 release is the 46th vintage of this luxury vintage Champagne brand that is known to often fetch ridiculous sums at auction houses. The 2013 summer was hot and dry and the sunniest on record in the Champagne region resulting in a great vintage. With no 2014 or 2016 release ahead for Dom Perignon the ’13 release is being nicknamed the “the last pre-climate change vintage”.
2008 saw the changing of the guards of Dom’s “Chef de Cave” role from Richard Geoffroy to Vincent Chaperon. Since 1990 Geoffroy oversaw an impressive 15 vintages of the world’s most famous luxury Champagne. Asked what he plans to do next he simply said “It’s not wine, that’s all I can say. There is no wine life after Dom Pérignon.”
The latest 2013 release scored an awesome 98/100 by James Suckling, one of the world’s leading wine critics. James called it simply “A driven and serious DP”.
